Day 1

Expected mileage: 86
Actual mileage: 105
Current Location: 40 miles from Manchester (at 10:15am, Tuesday 7th July)

The first day was not as smooth as hoped. A total of three punctures and one dodgy chain meant a hectic day for the boys as they set off for the south coast.

The first mishap was for the ever-reliable Stefan King as he managed to puncture his tyre as he pulled his bike out of the van to start the ride! An hour later a second puncture left Stef with a frustrating morning.

All was not well for Nick Wood either as a dodgy component on his chain meant that it was to come off early in the day. He got on the spare bike, only to puncture a tyre within five yards of setting off again! Having got his chain repaired well enough to see him through, they set off for an incident-free afternoon which saw them rack up twenty miles more than first anticipated.

The first day was thirteen hours long, eight of which were cycling and the rest lunch and repairs.

Hopefully Tuesday will hold better luck for them.
