The board and professionals are very pleased to announce that Chris Chapman will be joining the team of professionals at RTC in July.

Chris, an Australian with a handicap of 3, started out in squash, building on success at junior level he achieved a senior ranking of number four in the state of Victoria. He also enjoys cricket, golf, basketball and Australian Rules Football.

Chris, 23, has been employed at Royal Melbourne Tennis Club since 2007. He comes highly recommended by his head professional Frank Filipelli, has learnt all the basic skills of a real tennis professional, and is a thoroughly personable young man.

Chris has ambitions to improve his playing skills and Nick Wood believes he can do for him what he did for Ben Matthews, thus continuing the tradition of the RTC in developing the top professionals of the future.

Suzie Falkner, of the IRTPA, will be providing a live text commentary of the upcoming World Championship Challenge between the reigning champion Rob Fahey, and the challenger Steve Virgona. The IRTPA is also hoping to have live webcam coverage available.

The match will be best of thirteen sets, with the first four sets on Tuesday 4^th May, the next four sets on Thursday 6^th, and any remaining sets on Saturday 8^th.

The court will be closed from Monday 17^th May for approximately four weeks. The work is due to be completed by Friday 11^th June.

All work will take place Monday to Friday only. The court will be cleared and cleaned on Friday of each week so that it is usable at the weekends.

A brief summary of the works proposed by Historic Royal Palaces to the loft space is as follows:

• Remove existing glass fibre insulation
• Clean loft area (above boarding) of dust, debris etc.
• Undertake inspection of ceiling and roof timbers from inside loft
• Undertake repairs to timbers as deemed necessary – some may have to be done when roof tiles removed
• To lay two layers of Thermafleece 100mm thick (sheeps wool) thermal insulation between and over ceiling rafters
• To fit breathable membrane over the whole of the loft area (future protection against items falling through ceiling from roofworks and also to keep insulation from getting dirty

The professionals apologise for the inconvenience and the lack of tennis during this period.

Frederika Adam will be bringing her First Gallery exhibition to RTC on Wednesday 17^th March, to coincide with the Shilton Sharpe Quarry IRTPA National League Premier Division match between RTC 1 (Nick Wood and Peter Wright) and Middlesex University Real Tennis Club 1 (world champion Rob Fahey, and Rod McNaughtan).

Frederika will be on hand on Wednesday evening to answer questions.

The exhibition will run until 18^th April, giving RTC members ample opportunity to visit.
