The Night Pennant is a social round-robin competition for five teams of three players each. It takes place three times during the season, with matches played on Thursday evenings between 8pm and 11pm.
The players in each team have different handicaps within one of the following ranges: 25-40 (usually played in the spring); 40-55 (autumn); and 55 and above (winter). Each player plays a singles match against their opposite number and two doubles, one with each teammate. All matches are a single set (first to 6), and are played off handicap. Points are awarded for attendance (one point per player), for winning a set (one point per set). There is a two point bonus for winning the match.
After the round-robin phase the team in first place automatically qualifies for the final, and those in second and third places play a preliminary final for the right to contest the final. Finals night includes a dinner to which all players in all teams are invited.
